American Idol results 05/20/09: And the winner is

American Idol LogoKris Allen! In what can only be described as one of the biggest surprises of the season, Kris Allen beat out judges’ favorite Adam Lambert last night.

The finale ran a little over two hours, with appearances by a number of guest artists, among them The Black Eyed Peas, Cyndi Lauper, Queen Latifah and KISS. Most of the show was, amazingly, entertaining. I only fast-forwarded through a few of the performances 😉

In the end, it was the the 23 year old from Arkansas who beat out one of the most gifted singers that we’ve seen on the show in a long time. Despite having tremendous range, perhaps the voters tired of Adam”s screaming – I know I did.  Regardless, I expect a bright future for Adam. After the tour, of course.

Congratulations to all of the participants.

  1. The seven previous Idol winners were from Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arizona and Missouri, respectively.

Kris is from Arkansas, Adam from California. I’d say the result was pretty predictable.

  2. I never considered that Randy. Good observation.

I am not surprised by the outcome of this contest. America voted and now she will get what she deserves.

I think the outcome really worked out for both of them. Kris gets the promotional push he really needs and Adam is no longer restricted by the lameness that is American Idol.

I wish them both the best of luck.

    1. i’m not surprised because american don’t need an idol who uses an eyebrow. its just that the judges were regret of not choosing a rocker in the past(chris daughtry).

  3. One of the best finale shows AI has had. Very entertaining. Adam will do very well. He deserved to win but I knew America would vote for Kris.

  4. I think future contestants will hope Simon keeps his mouth shut, last year he predicted the other David to win, and I think we see America truly love’s David Cook’s music much better. I think Adam is unique and will have a bright career, but I think when it comes to buying music, Kris will be far more marketable. I think several of the top 10 will have successful careers in the business! Great Season!
