Democratic Caucus set for the 89th

The Norfolk City Democratic Committee has set the caucus for nominating the candidate in the 89th House of Delegates district. It will be held Wednesday, October 17, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Masonic Temple, 7001 Granby Street.

The 89th lies completely within the City of Norfolk (see map) and voting is open to all registered voters within the district.

Daun Hester is one of three candidates vying for the nomination. She has the support of the former representative of this seat, newly elected Senator Kenny Alexander. Other supporters include as Norfolk’s mayor, vice mayor and four of the six other council members, including Tommy Smigiel, a contributor to this blog.. Hester is a former member of Norfolk council. Her perspective on the issues facing local governments, as well as her experience in education, should be useful in the General Assembly. Visit her website to learn more.

I’ve not located any websites for the other two candidates, Lionell Spruill, Jr. and Yvonne Allmond.

Given that this caucus is tantamount to the actual election, which will be held December 18, it is important that voters in the 89th learn about the candidates and show up to vote at the caucus on October 17.
