Adopt-A-Student needs your help!

AdoptAStudentIt’s that time of year again and the Adopt-A-Student program needs your help! From an email I received yesterday:

We have already adopted 279 children for backpacks & school supplies so far this year! We have 178 left to be adopted!

We could still get more kids and certainly need to have the 178 listed above adopted. If you have been debating on helping us out PLEASE ACT NOW!

This weekend is a sales tax holiday on school supplies, so it’s a great time to help. You can call the program at  (757)499-9221 or email them.

I wrote about the program last year for the Virginian-Pilot. This year, I’ve adopted two students – a 10-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. I was afraid I’d forget the sales tax holiday, so I picked up all of the supplies – except the backpacks – a few weeks ago. I’ll be heading out this weekend to get the two backpacks.

I know there are a lot of school supplies programs out there. But this one is different in that you are helping an individual child. That’s what drew me to the program.
